“An Atlas of a Fictitious Cloud" : a ficção-documental através da publicação experimental

“An Atlas of a fictional cloud: documentary-fiction through experimental publishing” aims to research how documentary practice can approach fiction, to re-enact current contestable realities, through design. For this reason, we have approached the documentary-fiction genre as a discursive mode to combine the methodologies of editorial design as a destituent practice in order to open a space for criticism and discussion around relevant social themes. The perception of the world and society is shaped by the construction of cognitive metaphors and, for this reason, the mechanisms for deconstructing these metaphors are relevant to bring to light other forms of interpretation of reality. On the other hand, the digital transformation brought with it the need to apply familiar concepts to complex scenarios, in order to simplify our interaction with digital interfaces. An Atlas of a Fictional Cloud, the projectual component of this dissertation, through the documentary-fiction genre in its intersection with editorial practice, proposes the production of a discursive space that is able to question and criticize the way we communicate and manage our individual and collective memory and action. As a powerful fiction that operates in reality, the 'Cloud', as a basic infrastructure that provides digital resources, is used as a conceptual motto. Through editorial practice, we seek to assess the relationship between the notion of immateriality arising from the metaphors that the term 'Cloud' carries and the negative aspects of its materiality in terms of social, political and environmental sustainability. The open nature of the editorial artifact, and the way in which it stimulates an organic reading, intends to verify the ability of communication design to contribute to the creation of new spaces and discursive methodologies in the context of documentary fiction
